Most modern headlight lenses are made of polycarbonate plastic, not glass. From the factory they have a clear protective layer on the outside. Over time, sun exposure breaks that layer down. Once it goes, the plastic underneath starts to oxidize, and you get that hazy, yellowed, sometimes chalky look.
South Carolina sun speeds that up. So does a car that lives outside in a driveway or an office lot all year. Road grit, pollen season, and harsh automatic car washes don't help either. It's one of the most common things we see on vehicles a few years old.
A cloudy lens scatters and blocks light before it ever reaches the road. On a lit highway you may not notice much. On an unlit two-lane road out toward Clover or York on a rainy night, you will.
Restoring the lenses helps in a few ways:
If your headlights are dim because of a failing bulb, misaimed housings, or an electrical problem, restoration won't fix that. That's a job for a mechanic. We focus on the lens.
Restoration is hands-on work. The goal is to remove the damaged, oxidized surface and bring the lens back to clear.
We look at each lens up close. Surface haze is what restoration fixes. Cracks, chips, or fogging on the inside of the housing are different problems, and we'll point them out before starting.
We mask off the paint and trim around each headlight so the surrounding finish is protected.
We work through the damaged outer layer of the lens until the yellowing and haze are gone.
We polish the lens back to clarity. You'll see the difference immediately.

Most lenses clear up dramatically. Lenses that are cracked, deeply pitted, or fogged on the inside may not come back fully. We'll tell you what we see before we start.
That usually means a seal has failed and moisture is getting into the housing. Restoration works on the outside of the lens, so it won't fix internal condensation. That typically needs a repair or replacement housing.
Not necessarily. We're mobile and self-contained with our own water and power, so we can work in your driveway or office parking lot as long as we can access the vehicle.
For surface haze and yellowing, restoration is usually a far less expensive fix than replacing headlight assemblies. If a housing is cracked or leaking, replacement may be the better choice, and we'll be honest about that.
